Hoya davidcummingii is a beautiful and unique epiphytic plant native to the island of Luzon in the Philippines.
Description
Hoya davidcummingii has wiry stems with thick, dark green leaves that have darker edges and lighter undersides. The leaves are elliptical to lance-shaped, measuring up to 4 inches (10 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. The plant produces attractive hemispherical clusters of up to 20 star-shaped flowers. The flowers are pink to purplish-pink with yellow centers and emit a sweet fragrance. They appear all year round and last for up to 5 days. It is a trailing vine with small roots growing on the stems, which help anchor the plant to a supporting structure and gather moisture and nutrients.
Native Habitat: Endemic to the Philippines, specifically the dense forests along the roadside in the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park in the Province of Sorsogon. Grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte in humid, tropical environments.
Care and Cultivation: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can be too intense, especially in the afternoon. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Requires well-draining soil that provides excellent aeration and does not hold too much water. Prefers high humidity, reflecting its rainforest origins. Misting with rainwater is recommended for foliar feeding. Thrives in warm temperatures between 60-85°F (16-29°C). Keep it away from drafty windows and doorways during the colder months. Can be propagated through stem cuttings. Plant the cuttings in a well-draining growing medium and keep them in bright, indirect light.
Fun Fact: The specific epithet "davidcummingii" honors David M. Cumming, an Australian Hoya collector who first collected a specimen of the species near Lake Bulusan.
You will receive a plant that is very similar to the plants pictured. Ships in a 3.5" pot. We put great care into packaging our plants but due to the nature of the items shipped, it is possible for leaves or stems to bend or break in transit. Broken stems can be replanted after the open wound heals/dries to make two plants. Hoyas are very good at that! However, If your plant arrives rotting or dead, I will replace it for you. Please contact me within 24 hours of delivery of your plants. It is my duty to get you a live healthy plant- a few broken leaves not counting as this is normal. After 24 hours, my job is done and it is up to you (The buyer) to know how to keep it alive.
Heat packs are available for purchase with your item to use if cold weather is expected at the time of shipment. (Link to Heat Pack: bit.ly/40ugd4J ) Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. I will cancel any order I feel won't make it safely to its destination without freezing. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK!📌 I don't make any profit off of them because they are a necessary shipping item in winter.
Care Instructions are included with your order. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any extra advice you may require. We want you to be successful with our babies! If you have any questions about this item or others, please message me and I will gladly answer them.
