Product Description
Orbea pulchella, also known as Bokhoring Aasblom, is a fascinating succulent native to the coastal regions around Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is a mat-forming, perennial, leafless succulent with short grey, knobbly, 4-angled stems. The stems are about 5-10 cm high and 8-12 mm thick. The plant produces sulphur-yellow flowers covered with numerous purple-brown dots and specks, which emit an unpleasant odor to attract carrion flies for pollination. Orbea pulchella is typically found in sand-dunes along the coast, sand flats, and the banks of the Zwartkops River. It grows at altitudes ranging from 20-400 meters above sea level. The plant's habitat is characterized by rocky environments with a rich succulent flora, including species like Cotyledon woodii, Gasteria excelsa, and Haworthia glabrata. The flowers are usually 3 or more together, successively developed near the base of the stems. The corolla is 3-6 cm in diameter, with a shallow saucer-shaped disk and a solid, pentagonal annulus. It blooms from summer to autumn (January to October in its natural habitat)

Growing Instructions:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. It thrives in strong light but should be protected from the harshest midday sun. Requires typical succulent watering—allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or sand can enhance drainage. Thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C). It does not handle frost well and should be kept indoors in colder climates. Moderate humidity levels are preferred. Mist occasionally if the air is too dry.
Ships in the 3.5” pots shown in the pictures. You will receive a plant that is very similar to the plants pictured however they may have grown some or depending on the time of year, they could be semi-dormant. Some plants will drop their leaves in winter - Crown of Thorns, Buddha Belly Jatropha, Etc. I have only grown plants in Florida and will send out anything I feel comfortable will grow here. It is up to you to know the conditions that these plants grow in the part of the country you reside. If your plant arrives rotting or dead, we will replace it for you. Please contact me with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery of your plants. It is my commitment to provide you with a live, healthy plant. Please note that minor cosmetic damage, such as a few broken leaves or small stems, may occur during transit and is a common risk inherent in the shipping process. Again, we cannot guarantee that some leaves won’t be broken or fall off- It is normal to lose some depending on the variety (Sedum, Echeveria, Cotyledon, Graptopetalum, etc...). Many kinds of leaves will re-root and grow into a new plant. Some that do not are Cotyledon and Aeonium. After 24 hours, my job is done and it is up to you (The buyer) to know how to keep it alive.
Heat packs are available for purchase with your item to use if cold weather is expected at the time of shipment. (Link to Heat Pack: bit.ly/40ugd4J ) Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. I will cancel any order I feel won't make it safely to its destination without freezing. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK! 📌 I don't make any profit off of them because they are a necessary shipping item in winter.
